KURPARK PLAYER ANDREEVA WINS THE FRENCH OPEN
Mirra Andreeva will arrive at the Bad Homburg Open powered by Solarwatt (20–27 June) as a newly crowned Grand Slam champion. The 19-year-old won the French Open final against Polish breakthrough player Maja Chwalinska 6–3, 6–2 to secure the first major title of her career.
At Roland Garros, the new Queen of Paris celebrated her triumph and said after her victory on Court Philippe-Chatrier: “I watched television coverage of this tournament as a child. It was always a great dream of mine to win here, and I still can’t believe that I’m holding the trophy now.”
Andreeva, the new World No. 6, produced a composed display in her first Grand Slam final and defeated qualifier Chwalinska in just 1 hour and 22 minutes. She is the first Grand Slam champion born after 2005. Her impressive clay-court record in 2026 now stands at 26 wins and 3 losses. For the biggest success of her career to date, Andreeva, who is coached by Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez, receives approximately €2.8 million in prize money.
Last year, Andreeva had already spoken enthusiastically about the atmosphere at the Bad Homburg Open powered by Solarwatt: “The Wimbledon-like atmosphere in the spa gardens is fantastic. I feel very comfortable here!” On that occasion, the powerful baseliner was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Alongside Andreeva, the sixth edition of the WTA 500 event will also feature Grand Slam champions such as Iga Swiatek (6 major titles), Naomi Osaka (4) and Venus Williams (7). And there is more to come – another star player will be announced next week.
