SHOOTING STAR ANDREEVA FIGHTS THROUGH – QUARTERFINAL ON THURSDAY WITH TOP TEN SHOWDOWN

Three Grand Slam champions and former world number ones with a total of eleven major titles: On Tuesday, the audience at the Bad Homburg Open powered by Solarwatt (until June 28) witnessed top-level tennis, highlights, and renowned stars.

On the Spielbank Bad Homburg Centre Court, four of the five Top Ten players competing in the Kurpark were in action in their round of 16 matches – and all succeeded in front of a splendid crowd of 3,700 spectators!

Swiatek raves: “Everything fits together wonderfully here”

Fan favorite Iga Swiatek showed good form in her first grass-court match of the season, gaining confidence with a 6–4, 6–4 victory over two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka. The player with five Grand Slam titles currently active aims to prepare perfectly for Wimbledon (starting June 30) at the boutique tournament.
“The atmosphere here is really great. The Kurpark, the short distances, everything fits together wonderfully,” said fourth seed Swiatek, who will face either Ekaterina Alexandrova (No. 8) or Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Swiatek won the Wimbledon junior title in 2018 and now wants to immortalize herself on the hallowed grass seven years later.

Pegula vs Navarro: Top Ten showdown in Thursday’s quarterfinal

Top-seeded Jessica Pegula had little trouble in Bad Homburg. The 2024 US Open finalist defeated the injured Katerina Siniakova, 2022 Kurpark champion, 6–2, 6–3. In the fight for a spot in the semifinals, Pegula will face Emma Navarro (No. 5) on Thursday, who overcame wildcard Naomi Osaka 6–4, 6–4.

Last year’s Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini (No. 2) and Leylah Fernandez provided an exciting battle in the day’s first match. After 2 hours and 32 minutes, the favored Italian — the shortest player in the Top Ten at 1.63m — won 7–6 (10–8), 7–6 (8–6). Her next opponent will be Elina Svitolina or Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Andreeva’s debut on Wednesday eagerly anticipated

The third seed Mirra Andreeva will make her first appearance at this year’s Bad Homburg Open powered by Solarwatt on Wednesday (not before 5:30 p.m.). The 18-year-old, who won the WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Dubai this season, will face Clara Tauson. Andreeva loves the grass surface — and sitting in her box is a true grass-court specialist: her coach Conchita Martinez, who triumphed at Wimbledon in 1994.
